Author: Suzanne Berger

This observant, witty book reveals the conventions that govern Muslim society- and charts the unwitting mistakes Westerners can make when meeting Muslims.

"This book is for Christians venturing among Muslims," explains Christine Mallouhi. "It assumes that Christians will want to live honorably among Muslims for Christ's sake, and explores what that means…I am the Western wife of an Arab from a conservative Muslim family. My stories are from the shadow side of Muslim culture, which is invisible to most Westerners."
Her themes include:

    · Status · The place of women · The veil · Stereotypes · Segregation and restrictions · Family life · Hospitality and witness

Accounting or Introduction to Manufacturing Processes

Accounting: Text and Cases

Author: Robert N Anthony

ACCOUNTING: Text and Cases, 10/E is a 28 chapter book. Chapters 1-14 cover financial accounting, while Chapters 15-21 cover management accounting, and Chapters 22-28 focus on broader issues of control and corporate strategy. The approximately 120 cases that largely make up the end-of-chapter material are a combination of classic Harvard style cases, as well as extended problems.New to this edition is the inclusion of 2-3 problems per chapter. These problems, while not as involved as the case material, allow the students to exercise the concepts demonstrated in each chapter. The goal of the problem material is to provide a transition to the case material, which is a response to customer requests.

Robert N. Anthony is the Ross Graham Walker Professor Emeritus of Management Control at Harvard Business School. Professor Anthony has been a director of Carborundum Company and Warnaco, Inc., both Fortune 500 companies; for 25 years he has been a trustee of Colby College, including five years as chairman of the board. He has consulted for many companies and government agencies, including General Motors Corp., AT&T, the General Accounting Office, and the Cost Accounting Standards Board. Among Professor Anthony's awards are the Distinguished Accounting Educator of the Year Award from AAA, Accounting Educator of the Year Award from Beta Alpha Psi, the Meritorious Service Award from the Executive Office of the President, the Distinguished Public Service Medal of the Department of Defense, Comptroller General's Award of the U.S. General Accounting Office and Distinguished Service Award of the Harvard Business School Association.

Introduction to Manufacturing Processes

Author: John A Schey

This revision aims to address changes that have taken effect since the publication of the second edition. The most significant change has been in the attitude of industry to concurrent engineering. In 1987, mostly lip service was paid to it; today, it has become general practice in most competitive corporations. In the second edition , the author discussed this as the manufacturing system. In the third edition it becomes the focal point.

Concurrent engineering involves the whole product realization process, including product concept, performance criteria, mechanical design and analysis, materials selection, process planning and modeling, production control, automation, assembly, management, and others. An introductory text cannot possibly cover all of these topics, hence the emphasis of the third edition remains on the physical principles and the application of these principles to processes. The major difference relative to the second edition will be the emphasis on interactions between process and design. Capabilities and limitations of processes will be highlighted to show what they mean in terms of design possibilities, and design modifications will be suggested for ease of manufacture. Impact on the environment and possibilities for recycling will be woven into the entire text.
